Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn”. It is an ancient technique using heated wax and pigments. Although a wax product, encaustic art will not melt in normal household conditions as wax melts at 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Care should be taken to keep it out of direct, hot sunlight. It is also sensitive to freezing cold temperatures.
Sometimes encaustic will “bloom” or get a little cloudy. In this case rub it gently with a soft cloth. The surface will retain its glossy surface as it continues to cure and harden-up to 1-3 years. Enjoy.
