SUMMARY:The Art of Music: Jazzgrass
DESCRIPTION:Jazzgrass\nNovember 13\, 2025 @ 6:00 – 7:30 pm\nJazzgrass was formed in 1999 by Barnaby Finch to honor the newer and more progressive side of Bluegrass music. He was originally smitten with the music of a short-lived all-star band\, put together at the Telluride Festival\, called “Strength In Numbers”. Jazzgrass originally had Sean and Sara Watkins\, soon to be very famous with Nickel Creek\, and Kevin Hennessy on bass. Nickel Creek burst onto the scene\, and that was the end of that lineup. \nIn 2011\, Barnaby wanted to perform that music again\, and recruited some talented locals to play. There’s Lily McCabe on fiddle\, a talented young lady with a gorgeous tone\, who plays for the Troubadours at the Ramona Festival. Lily is also a wonderful singer\, and we’re featuring her on quite a few vocal tunes. We have Don Reed on mandolin\, dobro\, and guitar. He’s a famous Idyllwild musician who’s performed with J.J. Cale\, Dick Dale\, Ian Tyson\, and Jackie de Shannon. There’s Jeremie Levi on fiddle\, a virtuoso from France who’s a fixture in the Coachella Valley\, known for his fiery Gypsy Swing concerts\, and is a frequent and popular performer. On bass is Bill Saitta\, one of the busiest musicians in the desert area\, and Jeff Olson on drums\, who hails from Riverside\, and is in high demand in the Southern California music scene\, performing frequently with David Garfield\, Scott Wilke\, Dave Benoit\, and many others. Rounding out the band is veteran ace Bob Hamilton\, who has a long list of credits. Bob is a highly accomplished musician\, and is very busy as a first-call guitarist in the desert. This 3-day class will be held Tuesday\, January 27 through Thursday\, January 29. \nThis workshop is not eligible for discounts or promotional codes. \nTake your felting to the next level in this immersive workshop with Studio 907’s Beth Marx. Learn to create seamless garments using a resist\, make your own patterns\, and simplify shrinkage calculations with Beth’s “Easy Peasy Shrinkage Sheet.” \nUsing one of your own garments as a guide\, you’ll design and size a resist without complicated math or measurements. Explore Beth’s collage-style felting with handmade prefelts and layered silks\, while mastering seamless edges\, professional finishes\, shaping\, and closures. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you’ll have created your own unique\, wearable felted vest—and enjoy styling it with Beth in a fun photo session. \nClass size is limited to 12 \nInstructor: Beth Marx \nAn email confirmation\, a detailed material list (mainly you’ll be bringing your own wool roving and silk fabric) and other pertinent information will be provided upon registration. DESCRIPTION:Bob Hamilton\nFebruary 12\, 2026 @ 6:00 – 7:30 pm\n\nBob Hamilton is a freelance musician and teacher living in Palm Springs\, California. He is a master of the 6 string guitar and 5 string banjo\, a patient and engaging teacher\, and an adept improviser\, writer\, and arranger. Bob has played thousands of songs on stage with hundreds of bands. He has international touring experience\, ranging from rock/pop/soul bands in nightclubs to classical and jazz sets of solo guitar at upscale restaurants and banjo breakdowns on major bluegrass festival stages. \nFew guitarists come with the skill set that includes college training in jazz\, classical\, and Afro-Latin music\, national competitions for bluegrass banjo\, touring with the most popular cover band in the world\, a decade plus in rock/funk/soul bands\, and an ability to learn\, write and improvise everyday. \nCurrently Bob performs and records with dozens of bands a year in a variety of genres. In 2017 alone he performed at Red Rocks Amphitheater\, New Orleans Jazzfest\, the Greek Theater in LA\, with the Coachella Valley Symphony\, as well as regular Southern California jazz clubs\, festivals\, and clubs.
