Celebrating life through art is what brought Peggy Schulz, Director of Development, to the desert three and a half years ago. Seeking a more purposeful lifestyle in a smaller, art-loving community, Peggy left behind her accomplished 30-year career as a marketing executive in Los Angeles to help others discover the transformative power of creativity.
Raised in a small Midwestern town in Minnesota and later living in cities such as Minneapolis, Denver, Tokyo, Seattle, and Los Angeles, Peggy developed a deep appreciation for how community, culture, and creativity shape meaningful connections.
Art became both joy and refuge in her early life. With a father who was chronically depressed after a severe accident at their family’s fishing resort, Peggy turned to painting—an escape from what she recalls as a “gray world” into one filled with color and passion. Teachers recognized her natural artistic talent, keen sense of color and spatial relationships, and vivid imagination, encouraging her to explore bold, saturated palettes. During her senior year, she vowed to her favorite art teacher that she would one day do something meaningful with art.
That vow stayed with her. When Peggy discovered Old Town Artisan Studios and experienced the magic of its three-acre campus, she knew it was time to fulfill it. Today, she combines her professional expertise in marketing with her lifelong passion for art to support the OTAS mission through her role as Director of Development—sharing inspiring stories of how creative expression benefits others, fostering inspiration, healing, and transformation.
In her spare time, Peggy enjoys oil painting in her home studio in La Quinta—continuing to celebrate life through color, creativity, and connection.
