Jump into the exciting world of creative surface decoration and self-expression in this fun one day workshop on Sgraffito. Sgraffito (Italian for “to scratch”) is a decorating technique used on leather hard pottery, produced by applying layers of colors using underglazes or slips and then scratching off parts of the layers to create images, patterns and texture. Students will be looking at examples of sgraffito pottery from the ancient to modern. Students will also be learning different methods for transferring images onto clay and experimenting with different tools while creating one of a kind tiles. This workshop is for those with a basic knowledge of ceramics who want to delve a little deeper into surface decoration. Please bring a lunch/snack, as there will be a break allowing for drying time.
Class size is limited to 8. Instructor: Robin Hart
