Through four comprehensive classes, students will build a solid foundation in figure drawing for cartoons, comics, animation, and manga. They will explore essential techniques such as shapes, proportions, and gesture drawing. Students will delve into muscular anatomy and how to exaggerate proportions to reach their desired outcome in a variety of styles. As they progress, students will learn to capture motion with dynamic action poses, understand the nuances of drapery and apply advanced techniques like foreshortening and shading to add depth to their characters. The final class culminates in a portfolio review, showcasing their newfound skills and artistic growth! Session 1: December 31, January 7, 14 & 21 Session 2: January 28, February 4, 11 & 18 Session 3: February 25, March 4, 11 & 18 Session 4: March 25, April 1, 8 & 15 Intro to Ceramics is an introductory handbuilding class in which you learn all about techniques and tools. Students will be creating, by hand, functional ceramic pieces from start to finish with the guidance of an instructor. Learning to build with tools in the studio other than the wheel is key to understanding the art of clay. Students will get to explore the various capabilities of the slab roller, extruder, and numerous hand tools, all of which provide an excellent foundation for other ceramic disciplines. Through a combination of theory and hands-on practice, aspiring artists will learn how to bring their original characters to life. The course covers the entire creative process, from initial concept sketches to final print-ready artwork. By the end of this course, students will have a portfolio piece of original character artwork ready for publication. Whether they aspire to create comic book heroes, fantasy creatures, sci-fi protagonists, or the next animated hit, this course introduces students to the skills needed to succeed in the competitive world of professional illustration. This class will guide students through every step of the comic book process. Beginning with writing a page of script using professional methods and formatting, students will learn to pencil, ink, and color their own comic book page. Through hands-on activities and expert instruction, students will develop their artistic skills and bring their ideas to life. Complete with vibrant characters, dynamic pacing and engaging narratives. This class not only fosters creativity and storytelling but also provides a solid foundation in comic book artistry. Explore the art of throwing clay on the pottery wheel as you learn to craft one-of-a-kind pieces from start to finish. Students will learn the basics and beyond, including clay preparation, proper body positioning, centering, pulling walls, shaping, trimming, and glazing.
